Greater Everglades Community Food Summits

Join us to envision a local food system that is just, sustainable and inclusive!

Our First Summit: July 12-13, 2010 in Miami at Miami Dade College, Wolfson Campus

Our Second Summit: September 29 - October 5 in Miami (South Miami, Homestead, Downtown)

Our Third Summit: October 19 - 24, 2012 in Miami (Palmetto Bay, Homestead & Coral Gables)

Is your Community ready for a Food Summit?

Earth Learning, Land in Common, and community partners, will be hosting seasonal Community Food Summits to shape a shared vision for a vibrant, healthy, just and sustainable local food system in South Florida and coordinate the implementation of that vision.

Participants from diverse backgrounds will work together to:

  • Identify and map many of the sustainable, local food initiatives under way in our bioregion;
  • Develop a shared vision of the healthy, resilient, accessible, and sustainable food
    system we all need; and,
  • Identify the many opportunities needed to reach our collective vision.

The outcome of the Summits over time will be a cooperatively-developed Community Food Security Action Plan for strengthening and expanding the local food system within the framework of a regional foodshed.

The Action Plan will serve as vehicle for forming alliances, joint venture businesses, and fund-raising strategies to enhance the production, processing, storage, distribution, marketing, and consumption of foods sustainably grown in the Greater Everglades bioregion.

A major focus of the Summits and resulting Action Plan will be to develop proven systems for providing fresh, healthy, affordable local foods to ALL residents, especially those most in need.
