Sustainable Work Opportunities!

If you are ready to become part of a growing group of people committed to re-imagining our economy and food system so that it works for people, ecosystems, and planet and grows a life-sustaining culture here in our bioregion, The Greater Everglades, then consider joining the Earth Learning Team.

We have the following position(s) open:

A full-time farmer is needed for Guara Ki Eco Farm, a 3 acre permaculture farm that grows a mix of perennials and annuals in a beyond-organic way.

The farm is in the Homestead area near the Everglades and has capacity for housing on site.

Our climate is sub-tropical and our annual growing season is from October to May.

The Farmer will be in charge of every aspect of growing for market on the farm, from starting seedlings to managing the market garden and the many beds.

Experience is required in farming annuals "organically"; everything else (subtropical/perennial plants, and permaculture) can be learned as you go. Must have ability to lead other farm staff (assistant farmers, interns). Salary depends on level of experience/skill he or she brings, as well as, effort invested.

Position can start immediately, but no later than September 10. Please email a resume and at least 3 references to Mario Yanez as soon as possible.

Please note, that we will be forming a worker-owned cooperative to operate the farm. Applicants will (while they are working here) have an ownership stake in the farming business at Guara Ki Eco Farm; this means they will recieve a salary in direct relationship to the overall productivity of the farm.

Nursery Manager

A full-time Nursery Manager is needed for our edible plant nursery (focusing on edible and useful perennials) that will begin to expand rapidly over the next six months.

The Nursery Manager will be responsible for all aspects of operating the nursery, from keeping supplies on hand, to attaining plant materials, and to managing the production anf maintenance nursery stock.

Experience is required in nursery operations and all methods of plant propagation; everything else (subtropical/perennial plants, and permaculture) can be learned as you go. Must have ability to lead other nursery staff (assistant farmers, interns). Salary depends on level of experience.

Position can start immediately, but no later than September 30. Please email a resume and at least 3 references to Mario Yanez as soon as possible.

Please note, that we will be forming a worker-owned cooperative to operate the nursery. Applicants will (while they are working here) have an ownership stake in the nursery and edible landscaping business at Perennial Harvest; this means they will recieve a salary in direct relationship to the overall productivity of the farm.

Permaculture Apprentice(s)

Earth Learning is seeking Permaculture Apprentice(s) to assist in the design and installation of perennial polyculture systems (food forests, alley cropping, market gardens) on various edible landscaping projects, as well as work in our edible plant nursery.

Knowledge of permaculture is important, as well the ability to understand patterns, willingness to work well, and not be afraid of hard work. The position will be based in Homestead. Apprentice must have their own transportation. Housing is available at Guara Ki Eco Farm.

You will work along-side a seasoned Permaculture Designer/Practitioner as we implement several exciting projects. The Apprenticeship is a minimum of 25 hours per week and pays a stipend accordingly. Please email a resume and at least 3 references to Mario Yanez as soon as possible.
